We all have a calling on our life to impact God's kingdom. A calling that is bigger then we could ever imagine. A calling that honestly scares the poo (I justed typed poo. That's funny. I don't care who you are. That's funny right there.) out of you when you think "God wants to do that through me."
But I believe that the calling on the lives of those called to ministry is a different type of call then those that aren't called to serve the kingdom in that capacity. Those called to ministry: don't short change your God and settle with your calling to ministry to be your call. It's not even close to what God is calling you to do with the people around you. A calling to ministry is just the first step.
Their is a principle that churches and for that matter business should always follow. It's tried and true and the best practice when dealing with employees.
God has called specific people to specific places and we need to recognize that as His children. Pastors and ministry leaders: take your time praying through new people being added to your teams. Pray and ask God for wisdom and clarity before ever taking a step forward. Two examples in the blog-world have practiced what they preached this week and have come to the understanding that God has called people to other ministry. First thing that normally comes to peoples minds is something bad happened. But in both instances, they took the lead from God on both sides for the better of the ministry and the minister. Elevation and Oak Leaf.
I learned this principle the hard way with a leader in my previous ministry. As always we were hurting for leaders and a very nice young girl applied to serve. When praying through her call to our ministry. I never got a yes or a no from God and went ahead with bringing her on. She had a great understanding of successful junior high ministry, but quickly we both came to the realization that she wasn't called to our ministry at that time. Because we didn't take the time to really understand her call; we hurt our ministry, our students and her as a leader. We missed what God was showing us and we learned the hard way.
So I challenge you to find YOUR call.
And I challenge you Pastors and Ministry Leaders to find your right team. Take it slow. And maybe the men and women serving on your teams now are great ministers, but not called to minister are your church. Stop holding them and the ministry back. Listen to what God has called you to do.
Agree or Disagree with me. Post your thoughts.
