Matthew 3:17
Matthew 3:16-17, [Jesus is being baptized by John]....As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
Before Jesus preform any miracle or preach a sermon, God the Father looked down upon His son and said, "this is my Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased." God was please with Jesus only because He was His son. His love would never increase or decrease. His love that is unfailing.
As God children we are loved and have nothing to prove to receive that love. We just have to be His and grow in intimacy with Him. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we won't do anything. I'm say we don't have to do anything. But the book of James explains we can't have one without the other (isn't that a theme song?).
I can do great and amazing things in the church, but that's is all they will be. Great and amazing things for the church, not for the Kingdom or for God. As we grow closer to Him or actions become like His. Not for the sake of us, but for the sake of Him.
He wants our hearts, not our actions!
