"Be holy, because I am holy."

“But just as he who called you is holy,
so be holy in all you do;
for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy.”
1 Peter 1:15-16

I want to hear your thoughts. If you are a reader of the blog you are required to interpret this verse. What do you think God is telling us when He says be holy?

I think God wants us to live as He is, which is holy. To be holy means to belong or derive from something associated with divine power.

So we should rely on God and his infinite wisdom and power to live our lives and be a reflection of Him.

Those are my quick thoughts. Great idea. I'm sure everyone will have a dfferent interpretation.

To me this means to strive to be Christlike. In all we do, we are to be studying God's word and the life Jesus lived and stiving to change our hearts, minds, thoughts, actions, etc. to be more like Christ.

There's a song that says it well. Here are the lyrics:

Holiness, holiness is what I long for
Holiness is what I need
Holiness, holiness is what You want from me

Faithfulness, faithfulness is what I long for
Faithfulness is what I need
Faithfulness, faithfulness is what You want from me

Righteousness, righteousness is what I long for
Righteousness is what I need
Righteousness, righteousness is what You want from me

Take my heart and form it
Take my mind, transform it
Take my will conform it
To Yours, to Yours, oh Lord

Anyway, that's what I think of when I read that passage. Good questions. Would love to hear more answers.
